Periodontal Services in
Wauchula

At Wauchula Dental, we understand the dangers associated with periodontitis. That is why we offer periodontal services and treatments that are designed to put a stop to gum disease and restore a patient’s oral health.

Although they are often overlooked, a person’s gums are an important component of their overall oral health. When the gums are exposed to bacteria and plaque for extended periods of time, it can result in periodontitis, also known as gum disease. Periodontitis is a condition that affects nearly half of all adults to some extent. The disorder is marked by inflamed and swollen gum tissue that may bleed during regular brushing and flossing.

Many people choose to ignore periodontitis when it occurs. The usual thought is that it is no big deal and that the problem will eventually go away on its own. Unfortunately, this is often a mistake. As the gum tissue becomes more irritated, it will eventually begin to pull away from the teeth. This can lead to the creation of empty voids called periodontal pockets, and they will allow the condition to spread throughout the rest of the mouth more easily. And if the condition manages to reach the jawbone and the connective tissues of teeth, then it is likely that tooth loss will follow.

Once the condition has been treated, the gums should begin to heal, and the patient should go on to make a complete recovery. The periodontal services offered at Wauchula Dental include scaling and root planing treatments and bone grafting procedures.

        • Scaling and Root Planing: Early cases of periodontitis can be treated with scaling and root planing. This time-tested and safe procedure involves using dental tools to access the areas below the gum line that cannot be reached with normal brushing and flossing. This will allow us to clean out any harmful bacteria and plaque. We will then smooth out the root surfaces to prevent future buildups.
        • Bone Grafting: Bone grafting procedures are used when gum disease has spread to a patient’s jawbone. These procedures are designed to restore the health of the bone and help the structure regenerate. Bone grafting involves surgically accessing the damaged jawbone so that special proteins and artificial bone material can be applied. This will allow the jawbone to strengthen and enable new bone material to form in the area. Once the jawbone has completely recovered, it will be capable of providing proper support for existing teeth or dental implants.
